My vibe was low today as was my blood pressure and energy levels. And on a hot day like today, there is little escape from the severity of the drought in the Karoo. I wondered to myself what are we doing here? We are not farmers; we aren’t tied to any piece of land, we can live anywhere, so why would we choose to live here on this forgotten part of the earth? And then my dear husband reminded me during a telephone conversation as to why we wanted this lifestyle and why we would choose it again. I found some sort of comfort in his words and thanked him in my thoughts afterward for I could feel something heavy lifted of my chest. As I walked out the front door of my friend’s farmhouse, the reason played out in front of me. I just smiled as I witnessed pure joy and happiness that finds its way into the world with or without the rain.
